Do I need a twitter account to use tweetTV?
Nope! You won’t be able to take advantage of all the cool lists, but you can see ‘Everybody’s Tweets’ aka the public timeline and you can create searches to look for interesting subjects. If you don’t have a twitter account, go get one from Twitter.com. The Account panel comes up when you launch – just enter your twitter username (not your email!) and your password to get started.
Just tap the fullscreen avatar to dismiss it.
TIP: tap very close to the bottom of the screen to toggle the avatar’s aspect ratio – if you think some of the picture is being clipped, this will shrink the image to fit it’s width.
Surfing and Saving Channels
After entering your password – which you’ll only need to do once – you’ll be presented with the Surf Channels window where you can find, preview and add new channels.
Notice the Gear button in upper right – that’s where you’ll find tweetTV’s Setting Options like Account info, Manage your channels (delete and rearrange them), and get Help (here) and more info on the cool iPhone apps from Big Stone Phone.
What are Channels??
Channels are Twitter timelines and can be of 3 distinct flavors:
- Search Channels
- List Channels
- Twitter Channel
Even without an account, you can make cool search channels. Tap the ‘New Search’ item. If you wanted to find all tweets from a tweeter, such as the author @twittelator, you would enter ‘from:twittelator’.
You can learn more about creating Searches at Twitter Search, but remember these basics:
- words separated by spaces must both be in a tweet for search to match
- join words with OR (note all CAPS) to search for X or Y
- keywords followed by a : can make advanced searches
- about:twittelator
- tag:FF
