BTW - a simple way to get the fuzzy effect in a PDF:

a. in a scratch document, drop in the photo, rotate, add fuzzy shadow
b. drag that image as a JPEG into your document - or if you want super-high quality printing, set the DPI to 300 in Preferences and drag out the photo as TIFF

Now, 2 good things have happened:
a. your resulting document will be MUCH, MUCH smaller (and may not even need PStill to compact the output PDF)
b. Your fuzzy shadow is maintained as pixels so the final output will show it correctly.
