I'm running a 3 GHz Quad Intel Mac Pro Tower with a RadeonX1900 video card.

Whenever I try to use the "Full Screen" mode with effected video the video freezes on a single frame. It works great if I just run it in the Videator window but as soon as I hit "Full Screen" everything comes to a grinding halt. If I go back to the Videator window all is good again.

This happens with live video or any of the Videator samples I've downloaded from your site like "numberspotlight.vd8r" for instance. Changing number of colors from "Millions" to "Thousands" or going to lower screen resolutions doesn't seem make any difference.

Any Ideas?

Thanks,

Joe

Try this:

Uncheck:
Preferences -> Movie/Video "Use Quicktime Capture"

Then make a new window and go full screen...

Can you report back after trying this?

Hi Andrew,
I unchecked "Use Quicktime Capture" and the same thing occurs. As soon as I return from "Full Screen" and hit play it all works as advertised.

I hooked up a second monitor and the loop wont play until I close the "Full Screen" Window".

Thanks,

Joe

SPACEBAR toggles play/stop - does tapping the spacebar start it up in full screen mode?

Since I don't have your hardware available for testing, I can only guess...

Hi Andrew,

The space bar doesn't work either. I can advance one frame at a time using the command arrow key combination. I can go full screen when I link to XaoS.

I forgot to ask if you were running Leopard or Tiger?

Can you peek at the Console log after trying to go full screen in Videator?

Applications/Utilities/Console - and copy/paste any output from [Videator]....

Thanks (and I'll have other friends try it out too).

Just as a benchmark, I have a 3ghz dual-quad core MacPro with a Radeon x1900 running two monitors on a fresh (as of yesterday) Leopard install (+ dev tools installed). I had no trouble running Videator in full-screen mode. Tried out a bunch of effects, worked fine. Something specific I should check?

Andrew,

Attached is the output from the console. I cleared the Console Log then ran Videator with a simple effected movie running. I put it into full screen (command F), the movie stalled then I went back to regular window mode (command F) then opened the console and copied the window contents of the "console messages" to a text file.

Thanks,

Joe

Thanks - nothing pops out (just debug messages around the iChat theater feature - but that's expected). Hmmm - I'm going to ask some of my apple engineer friends if there are known bugs in that graphics card chip set - because its working on many other hardware configurations.

Could you please download this new version of Videator and try it out?

ftp://ftp.swcp.com/pub/tmp/a/Videator.dmg.gz

I now realize why I couldn't replicate it - I was trying Live mode full screen which works fine - the bug seems to be around a movie going full screen - that works now!

Andrew,

That did it!

Thanks so much for your great product and service.

...now if I could just use a live audio feed with those movies...

Thanks so much!

Joe

There is a way to do this:

1. Make a new Live window
2. Drag in the movie or movies, choose Overlay
3. Scale the movie to cover the live window

Now, if you add effects that are Wired to Sound, it will use the ambient sound like you desire, ignoring the sound in the movies.
