Hi,

New to TrueBleu...
When having chosen a font folder to convert, the process of converting takes forever. Is this normal?
I have but 74 fonts in the Library/fonts/

Any help ...

Thanks

Christian

It can take a good amount of time if it's able to convert all those fonts. I just let it run in the background and it eventually finishes and PStill opens automatically.

I think I might have to change my tune about this. Just for the fun of it, I emptied my Converted Fonts folder and ran TrueBlue 1.1 again. It's hanging for literally almost a day (though the computer did go to sleep which might have messed things up too), so I'm force-quitting it. This is an unscientific test, so I could have missed any number of things, but I can corroborate that, at least at first glance, there seems to be a problem with some aspect of the conversion process.

I'm pretty sure that TrueBlue "Logs" each font as it processes it - so look into Console and see what the name of the last font was before it "hung"...

That can help us find a potential problem in the app...

Hi,

This is what the logs tells at the end:
***************************************************
2004-04-12 16:05:23.315 TrueBlue[901] fondu
2004-04-12 16:05:23.315 TrueBlue[901] HelveticaNeue.dfont

2004-04-12 16:05:23.317 TrueBlue[901] HelveticaNeueBoldItalic.ttf
2004-04-12 16:05:23.317 TrueBlue[901] HelveticaNeueCondensedBlack.ttf
2004-04-12 16:05:23.317 TrueBlue[901] HelveticaNeueCondensedBold.ttf
2004-04-12 16:05:23.317 TrueBlue[901] HelveticaNeueItalic.ttf
2004-04-12 16:05:23.317 TrueBlue[901] HelveticaNeueLight.ttf
2004-04-12 16:05:23.317 TrueBlue[901] HelveticaNeueLightItalic.ttf
2004-04-12 16:05:23.317 TrueBlue[901] HelveticaNeueUltraLight.ttf
2004-04-12 16:05:23.317 TrueBlue[901] HelveticaNeueUltraLightItalic.ttf
Creating T1 Font file: /tmp/TrueBlue-christian/Converted/HelveticaNeue.font/HelveticaNeue
***************************************************

I force-quit the app 16.45

Remark: The spinning wheel starts at the beginning of the conversion and the fan of my powerbook starts few seconds later and stops few seconds after TB has quit. Processor works intensive at ±91% for TB.

Hope this helps...

Regards,
Christian

I have the same problem exactly. Just drag the font (Helvetica Neue) onto your desktop then run True Blue all should be ok. Now put it back, this font has caused trouble in the past but if you remove it that can cause problems. I knew Macfixit had run an article so I did a search and this is what came up

"Turns out the dreaded HelveticaNeue.dfont must be present in the library/fonts folder; many users have removed that to prevent conflicts with their own postscript version of Helvetica Neue, but it seems iCal requires the .dfont in order to launch. Sure enough, when I put it back where it came from, iCal ran perfectly."

also Adobe reader has problems with the Helvetica font, I don't use it because of this.

At this point maybe the Big Cheese and Frank could give us a technical answer?

I have some Celtic borders which cause True Blue to quit so I remove these to the desktop when I need to.

I hope this helps.

OK - here's my attempt at fixing that problem - HelveticaNeue works now so I bet others will too!

Please try out this version of TrueBlue

That last version works indeed, and quick!

Thanks!

One question though.
In the log I found this :
**** Postscript table in wrong format 40000 ****
What does it mean and is it of any importance?

Christian

The new TrueBlue doesn't hang on conversion, but I don't see HelveticaNeue in PStill's font list. What do the rest of you see? TrueBlue says it converted HelveticaNeue in (in the console log), as well as a bunch of others that don't show up in PStill.

Indeed...:(

In my case, the group of converted fonts first shows up when imported.
Then something strange happens, the font list returns to a different state, with less fonts.
So after verification, a whole lot of fonts are indeed missing from the list.

One can quickly look at the translated font in TextEdit and verify that there is TROUBLE AHEAD!

Just look at the empty dict entries for name and full name! (you can't call up a font without a name...)

/FullName () readonly def
/FamilyName () readonly def

Yikes! Well, that's why we call it a Release Candidate... We'll look into it.

Currently TrueBlue extracts the "PostScript name" TrueType resource from a TTF (that is stored inside the .dfont container) - if this resource does not exist or the name is empty the resulting font will fail during PStills font analysis & import as it does not have a valid name. Unfortunately HelveticaNeue is such a font.

In future versions we may ask the user to supply a suitable font name or use the stored dfont names (which appears to be correct at least for HelveticaNeue) right away.

- Frank

Here's a new TrueBlue! - it does two new things: It correctly attempts to guess the name of the font if its name field is empty (IE HelveticaNeue), and it produces lovely fonts that PStill can use!

TrueBlue that works with Neue!

Thanks Andrew! HelveticaNeue and a couple of others that didn't work previously are now converted and installed in PStill.
