I had noticed that both Create and T=$ had gotten slow on launch for me. The new version of Create has seemed to fix this. Any chance a similar fix could be made for T=$, unless it's just me? And if it is just me, can anyone tell me what to do? The wait is pretty long, so long that I end up having to find other things to do in the meantime. Time equals money, after all… ;)

I'm running 10.3.7 on an 1.8 GHz iMac G5 w/ 1.25GB RAM, in case you care.

Joe open Activity Monitor (in utilities folder) then launch your Stone apps. If the Activity Monitor shows that the app hangs (you have to bring Activity Monitor to the front, if an app hangs the apps name will turn red and Hang will be displayed, the hang will clear after time and the app will launch). Mail could exhibit this problem too. If you have the Hang you are experiencing the 10.3 DNS problem. See my post under Create Support, Invalid licence issue. I'm guessing you are connecting to the internet or local network via ethernet.

I'll keep checking the forum should you have any further questions.
Mark.

Maybe give this build of T=$ a try?

Thanks Andrew, I will and I'll report back when I get my iMac G5 back; hopefully that will be tomorrow. Hard drive died. :( At least I have my Users folder and 3rd-party apps backed up.

Andrew, I have tried the latest build and without entering the DNS values in system preferences it hangs for approx 1 minute.

I have tested the DNS fix on several Macs and it has worked each time, remove the DNS values and you get the hang.

Joe, sorry to hear of your G5 problem, I have a 20 inch G5 iMac which gives out a loud high pitched squeal. This seams to be a common problem that Apple are working on a fix for.

Sigh. It took longer to get the iMac back than originally thought. I have it back up and running, and T=$ seems to launch fine (2.5 (v Dec 6 2004 [build 194] )). This should be the same version that was giving me problems, as it was restored from backup.

Andrew, if you want me to try the above build anyway, let me know.

Joe, how did the recovery of your hard drive go? And how did you do it?

I keep a clone of my system on a FW hard drive (Carbon Copy Cloner) and a copy of my files (.mac Backup) but have never had to use them.

I had my entire Users folder and all third-party apps backed up with Retrospect. I did have to reinstall a bunch of stuff esp. things that had stuff in the /Library folder. I am now backing up parts of that folder as well. It was tedious and I still expect to launch an app or two and have to re-enter a license or something, but it didn't take to long to get back once I got the iMac back.

FYI, I don't like Retrospect. I hate the interface. But, in order to have incremental backups with access the previous days work, backup on a schedule, and use various media like ext. hard drives, it was the only way to go. I'm still looking at other options.

Retrospect worked, that was the main thing.
Thank you for the input.
