Stone Design Ships Latest Stone Studio™
with new features and Japanese

San Francisco, January 8, 2002 - Stone Design today announced immediate availability of new versions of all seven applications included in Stone Studio™, its flagship suite of applications designed from the ground up to take advantage of Mac OS X.

Stone Design has added Japanese to the list of languages built into Stone Studio, which include French, German, Italian, Spanish, Swedish and English. Upgrading to this version is free for all current users and downloadable from
http://www.stone.com.

Stone Studio now provides printable PDF versions of all of its online help, along with the fully-indexed and searchable Apple Help versions already included inside each application.

Both Create®, Stone Design’s drawing, page layout, and web page authoring application, and PhotoToWeb® can now use custom navigation bars in their web output. In addition, both applications are using named classes in their HTML output. This allows expert users to further customize the look and feel of their web pages by writing CSS style sheets.

Stone Design CEO, Andrew Stone, notes “We are always working to improve our software. The fun of working with software is that it’s not set in stone; we can continually improve it in response to user comments and our own ideas. One of our goals is to provide depth without complicating the interface. Custom navigation bars are simply drag and drop. The CSS classes make it possible for knowledgeable users who want more control to have it, without in any way changing the normal interface.”

PhotoToWeb® users can now save their custom web settings and easily use drag and drop to apply those settings to other albums and album trees.

PStill™, Stone’s PostScript to PDF distiller, is now using a new engine that produces leaner PDF with improved stability. Embedded TrueType fonts are now automatically converted to Type 1 and included in the PDF output. CEO Stone notes, “PStill users can now get even greater value by downloading our free applications,
TrueBlue and DOCtor. TrueBlue lets you use your TrueType fonts with PStill, and DOCtor translates Word documents to EPS and, if you have PStill, to PDF.”

The Japanese localization was done by Satoru Uzawa, and represents our first effort. Stone Design welcomes feedback for improvement.

Stone Studio™, which recently received a “Freakin’ Awesome” rating from MacAddict Magazine, includes applications to do graphic design with page layout and web publishing features, manage digital photos, track time and bill clients, and produce PDF from PostScript files. Stone Studio™ includes the following applications:

Create® 10.4.3 for Mac OS X is a draw and layout application built on the idea that everything is an object. Patterns, blends, effects, art, and pages can be dragged and dropped to create multipage documents. Features include web page authoring, instant graphic conversion, autotracing, animation, multiple document master pages, patterns, neon, and special graphics and text effects.

PhotoToWeb® 1.3.7 manages digital photographs and produces websites from albums of images. It can produce thumbnails, do slide shows, and annotate, crop, rotate and scale images to produce configurable web sites. Users can set the background and navigation bars and can save album styles for future use.

SliceAndDice™ 2.4.7 lets the user easily create navigation bars, Javascript rollovers, image maps, and complicated mosaic tilings from any image. It features full control over image production and produces easy to read and modify HTML. By dragging SliceAndDice files into Create®, the user can create complex web pages with image maps and rollovers.

PStill™ 1.8.6 converts EPS/PS and other conforming PostScript to the Portable Document Format (PDF). Its EPS filter allows viewing EPS directly on Mac OS X in any application as antialiased PDF.

PackUpAndGo™ 2.1.6 creates compressed archive files (.tar.gz) from dragged in files and folders and automatically uncompresses dragged in archive files. With many user preferences, this application puts a graphical user interface on Unix archiving and compression commands, making it easy for the user to create compressed backups or prepare folders for mailing.

TimeEqualsMoney™ 1.3.94 tracks time spent for clients, and produces invoices and reports automatically.

GIFfun™ 3.1.5 creates web animations quickly and easily, using drag and drop technology. The source code to GIFfun is also available online.

CEO Stone adds, “The true power of OS X shows when you use the apps together. Use Create to make a navigation bar image. Drag it into SliceAndDice to slice it into pieces, and drag the pieces back into the custom navigation bar controls in Create and PhotoToWeb. Install PStill and then drag EPS files directly in Create. Generate your website in Create or PhotoToWeb and drag the resulting folder into PackUpAndGo to make an archive that can be easily transferred to a web server. It’s all seamless.”

Stone Studio™ is available online at the
Stone Store or at any of the Apple Stores. Stone Design has extended its low introductory pricing: $299 through January 31, 2002. Each application can also be purchased separately at the Stone Design Store.
