Adding internal links
December 12, 2002
I'm working on the StampInStone help today, and I'm adding a lot of links to internal pages within the help document itself.
One of the things I always do is give each page a name (make sure nothing is selected on the page and go to the Web tab of the Info window).
Then I use those names in the links. To link to a named page, use the page name in the Another URL text field in the Web tab of the Info window (visible when something is selected), but replace all the spaces and punctuation with underscores and add ".html" to the end.
So, a page named Default Stamp becomes Default_Stamp.html.
However, I don't always remember the names I've given the pages (although I try to be consistent and logical). It's kind of a pain to keep navigating through the document to go to a page to see its page name...so don't do it.
Instead, bring up the Master Layers window (File->Master Layers...). All of the page names are listed on the right side of the window. Voila! Copy and paste are our friends.
Now I just need a little script to replace the spaces with underscores and add ".html" to the end...
