How to crop in Create
--Kris
February 13, 2003

We get this question all the time, and it's very easy: use Mask Groups. Just use any drawing tool (any of the shape or spline tools) to draw a shape over the image you want to crop. If you just want a rectangular crop, use the Rectangle tool. Select the image and the shape, choose Object->Group->Mask Group, and voila! a cropped image.

There are more details in our FAQ: How can I crop images in Create?.

The advantage of this over a simple cropping tool is that you can crop to any shape. We use this in one of our tutorials: Make a mask group

Enjoy!

The other advantage of using mask groups to crop is that you never lose your original, so you can re-"crop" the art as much as you want. If you want to change how the image is cropped, you can ungroup the mask group and try it again.
